Elizabeth Curtis was a joy to be around. She loved her family, she loved her job and her dental patients, and she loved her community. She died too young during the birth of her daughter, Katherine, on December 22, 2013 leaving many of us searching for some kind of explanation.
Elizabeth was raised in Grand Haven by her parents, Michael and Ann (Moore) Irish. She was a 1997 graduate of Grand Haven High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Michigan State University and her Doctorate in Dental Science at the University of Michigan.
She married Scott Curtis on November 17, 2007, in Grand Haven. Elizabeth was passionate about her dental practice with Dr. Kennard Creason and Dr. Walt Weber at Creason, Weber and Curtis. Elizabeth loved her family, her community, and her profession. She was an active community volunteer and secretary of the Rotary Club of Grand Haven, a member of the Grand Haven Chamber of Commerce, PEO, and Alpha Xi Delta, treasurer of the Muskegon District Dental Society. She enjoyed building furniture for her home, great conversation with her friends and family, and adventures with her children. Elizabeth had a caring heart and enjoyed volunteering for Miles of Smiles.
Elizabeth loved the idea of a concert that would allow her son, Adam, to engage and interact in a concert without worrying that he might disrupt others. A concert where he could move around. Dance. Feel the joy of music. The idea of Liz’s Concerts was born out of a chance conversation with her friend and co-owner of Seven Steps Up, Michelle Hanks. When Liz died unexpectedly, Michelle recalled that conversation and wanted to provide an avenue for Liz’s memory to live on in the community.
Liz’s Concerts will be made free to the community with the help of individual donations and corporate sponsorship. One of the missions of Courtyard Concerts is to provide music education and enjoyment to children. What a great way to help Liz’s memory bring joy to others just as she brought joy into many people’s lives!
Courtyard Concerts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
